Staffordshire, Stafford & Cannock

The towns of Stafford and Cannock are located in the heart of Staffordshire. Staffordshire is a county with its roots based firmly in Britain's rural as well as industrial heritage. This makes its towns and surrounding areas as well as the activities they offer, highly interesting and diverse.

For a Doctor training in General Practice, the Stafford and Cannock VTS practices offer a range of socio-economic patient populations. These include rural, countryside communities, young university students, market towns through to post-industrial inner-city populations. From the viewpoint of hospital training, we are supported by major hospitals including Mid Staffordshire Foundation Trust.

Communications in the area are excellent with easy access to the M6, M6 Toll and M54 motorways. Rail links from the towns to anywhere in the UK are accessible, making travel to major cities such as Birmingham and Manchester just a 30 - 50 minute journey. We are also supported by a highly popular bus service.

Stafford and Cannock offer an excellent range of shops, restaurants, pubs, clubs, cinemas and theatres. We are also in close proximity to other major towns and cities including the Cathedral City of Lichfield, Tamworth, the pottery towns of Stoke-on-Trent and the market towns of Stone and Shrewsbury.

The area has many sports and leisure facilities, including leisure and fitness centres, swimming pools, athletics, golf, football, hockey and other sports clubs. For those interested in outdoor activities the Staffordshire Moorlands, Shropshire Hills and Cannock Chase an "Area of Oustanding natural beauty" are all in easy reach. All of these areas offer great walking, horse riding, fishing, boating, gliding, cycling, mountaineering etc. Practically on our doorstep, we also have the Derbyshire Peak District.

Other attractions in the area include stately homes and parks (e.g. Shrugborough Hall and Weston Park), fun/theme parks such as Alton Towns, Drayton Manor and waterworld, museums (Bass, Potteries, Black country, Ironbridge, city etc), historic buildings (e.g. Moseley Hall and Boscobel House), railways and canals, castles, cathedrals, churches, antiques and garden centres.

We hope this has provided you with a 'taste' of the area. If you would like to find out more please take a look at the useful links section on this page.
